Broome was attacked at the least four times in the course of World War II as A part of the Japanese air raids on Australia. The worst attack in terms of lack of life was an air raid on three March 1942 wherein at least 86 people (mostly civilian refugees from the Dutch East Indies) were killed, rendering it the next deadliest Japanese attack on Aus
